Assignments

If future assignments are posted, it is highly discouraged to work ahead.  Please wait until Mrs. Dodds has assigned work in class.   It is very common for Mrs. Dodds to change  or alter assignments before and during the class.  

Parent-Teacher Conferences are on Thursday, October 15th.

Assigned Wednesday, October 14th:  Due Friday, October 16th.

• Chapter 2 Pretest - Take this like a quiz without asking for help or looking anything up; completion grade only (it doesn't matter how much you know but helps me plan for the class)

• Study Catechism -  Study the rest of the catechism questions for 30 minutes

• Workshop Paper (bright yellow or orange, double sided) - Read it 3 times; Can you memorize the 4-step process?  How much of the poem can you memorize?  A prize for the student who can get the furthest on the poem on Friday!

• Rocket Math - Remember to do Rocket Math each day... we are back on our regular schedule.

Assigned Monday, October 12th:  Study for Chapter 1 Test... 
(Test Wednesday; Self-Assessment and Graded Review due Wednesday)

• Complete your Student Self Assessment - turn in on Wednesday.

The following are suggested ways to study but not required...

• Review your Chapter Review Graded Assignment & redo any problems you got wrong (in a different color)

• Practice extra problems in the book for the skills listed on your study guide that you are struggling with...make sure to check your answers in the book and redo until you understand.

• Watch reteaching videos and/or do extra practice exercises on the skills you need to practice (see below)

• Review your terminology page

• Study your Words Associated with each operation and your 4 Operations Handout (also in the Class Notes section on the website).

• Rocket Math - need 4 practices this week and remember to bring your folders to turn in on Friday!

Assigned Wednesday, September 23rd.   Due Friday, September 25th.

• Textbook p. 58-61; Think "Left Columns"...
  Problems:  1-6, 13-16, 21-24, 29-32, 37-40, 45-48, 61-64, 69-74, 81-89.

• Review Handout (for Quiz Friday) Complete the review (ideally in 20 minutes or less) and then check your work with the answer key given to you in class.  This will help you see anything you need to study for the quiz.

• Bring your Rocket Math folder (with Rocket Chart and this week's Completed/Dated quizzes or Verbal Chart.

Assigned Monday, September 21st.  Due Wednesday, September 23rd.

• Textbook p. 47; 84-106 evens.  Check each with multiplication.

• Brainstorm/research words associated with each operation.  For example, "plus" goes with addition; "leftover" goes with subtraction.  What other words can you think of or find?  Only spend 15 minutes on this part of the assignment...this is not supposed to be lengthy.

• Remember Rocket Math!  4 separate days

Minimal Homework for the Weekend:

• Check your Rocket Math quizzes - look in your folder to see how many levels I gave you for quizzes.  For example, I need to know if you have through Level G, through Level M, through level S or through level V.  Come to class Monday ready to tell me what you have!  Thanks!

Assigned Wednesday, September 16th.  Due Friday, September 18th.

• Textbook p. 44-46; 1-4 all, 6-16 evens, 46-52 evens, 61-68 all, 70-82 evens, long division pages (three pages sent in an email of "Homework Alterations and Explanation").

• Study for quiz.  Some students chose to take this after class today since they were bummed I had to move it to Friday.

• Practice Rocket Math (need 4 this week).  Bring your personal Rocket Math folder back on Friday (white folder you were to put your name and decorate if you want).  The folder should have your Rocket Chart and completed quizzes or verbal chart.

Assigned Monday, September 14th.  Due Wednesday, September 16th.

• Textbook p. 44-45; 18-40 evens (find the actual product and then estimate the factors and find the estimated product to check your answer)

• Study and memorize your Catechism Q & As (1-7, 20-22, 29-30) - QUIZ Wednesday

• Teach Rocket Math to your parents (let them know an email is also being sent) - now that Rocket Math has launched, you should get 4 practices (separate days) in each week.  You will turn in your completed quizzes (with dates on each) along with your Rocket Chart each Friday morning (in your white personal Rocket Math folder).  These are due before school.  First four practices due this Friday - so start today!  Your blue student practice book can stay at home.  

• Personalize/Decorate your white Rocket Math folder by Friday.  Bare minimum is that it has to have your first and last name on the front in marker.  

NO HOMEWORK Assigned Friday, September 11th. 

• Students could always redo any graded work they want to turn back in but redoing homework isn't required.

Assigned Wednesday, September 9th.  Due Friday, September 11th.

• Textbook p. 25-29; 11-28, 39-50, 55-61, 67-78 estimate to check and 87-95 estimate to check

• Continue working to memorize the Arithmetic Catechism Questions 1-7, 20-22 and 29-30.
  Read the questions and answers out loud 3 times each and then quiz yourself or find someone to quiz you.

• There is a PowerPoint study tool you can download from the website under "Resources" if you want to have a Question/Answer electronic format.

Assignment for Tuesday, September 8th.  Due Wednesday, September 9th.

• Complete the Word Form, Standard Form and Expanded Form handout you worked on in class on Friday

• Read 1.1 in Textbook (pgs. 1-7)

• Read Handout "1.5 Different Number Systems" noting thoughts, questions, comments to discuss

• Complete Math Student Survey

• Make sure you have all your supplies - we will set up binders on Wednesday
